New article about appropriatness of security measures from the SECONOMICS team

A new article about the research that the SECONOMICS project is performed has been recently published in the Security Journal. The title of the article is "The appropriateness of today’s airport security measures in safeguarding airline passengers" and their authors are Nalan Ergün, Birsen Yörük Açıkel and Uğur Turhan, some members of the SECONOMICS team from the Anadolu University.

SECONOMICS Summit: Presentations available to download

The SECONOMICS Summit that was held on 5th November 2014 in Brussels has concluded. More than 50 representatives of several organizations related to security, critical infrastructures, social impact and critical events attended this conference. It was an excelent opportunity for the interchange of information and feedback about the project results.

SECONOMICS Summit on 5th November

On 5th November 2014, the SECONOMICS Summit will be held in EU Commission Covent Garden, Place Rogier 16, Brussels.

Delayed or wrong decisions in security can have serious consequences and lead to critical disruptions. This event will show how SECONOMICS deals with the mitigation of potential security threats and also investigates the sustainability of security. During this event, three case studies will be presented and discussed.

SECONOMICS will be in the Annual Conference of the European Society for Criminology

The Annual Conference of the European Society for Criminology has accepted Daniela Gawrecká's paper entitled "Security vs. Privacy: Czech and Foreign Media Perceptions of CCTV Cameras".

This paper was prepared under the auspices of the Institute of Sociology, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and within the framework of the SECONOMICS project.

SECONOMICS Validation Workshop with UK Government: Security & Economic models in Critical National Infrastructure

On 22nd July 2014, NGRID, UNIABDN and UDUR organised a dissemination, validation and calibration workshop around the economic and systems models in the CNI work package around the effectiveness of information and cyber security regulation in CNI. The workshop took place with UK Government Cyber Energy Resilience team that sits in the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) who are responsibility for advising UK Government of the state of cyber security in the energy industry, particularly CNI.

SECONOMICS Validation Workshop with National Grid: Security & Economic models in Critical National Infrastructure

On 29th May 2014, NGRID, UNIABDN and UDUR organised a validation and calibration workshop around the economic and systems models in the CNI work package around the effectiveness of information and cyber security regulation in CNI. The workshop took place with National Grid’s security leadership who bring expertise in all areas of information and cyber security with a focus on the UK’s Electricity Transmission Network.

SECONOMICS workshop at Anadolu University (Turkey)

A dissemination and validation workshop for airport security was performed at Anadolu University, 27-28th of February 2014. The workshop consisted of two sessions:

1st day: General SECONOMICS project and security-related perception presentations
2nd day: scenarios and models on airport security and discussions.

The objectives were to share information about the SECONOMICS project with high level professionals on Airport and ATM security, and to understand the stakeholders idead about project scenarios, models and outputs.

SECONOMICS in the 5th ECPR Graduate Student Conference 2014

The 5th ECPR Graduate Student Conference 2014 has accepted Daniela Gawrecká's paper: "Who Watches the Watchmen? Risk Perception and Security vs. the Privacy Dilemma in the Czech Press" about SECONOMICS.

The conference will take place in the University of Innsbruck, Innsbruck, Austria, on3 - 5 July 2014.

SECONOMICS CNI Work stream presentation at the 81st I-4 Forum

The SECONOMICS project was presented at the 81st Forum of the International Information Integrity Institute (I-4) in Phoenix, USA on the 10th March 2014 by Raminder Ruprai of NGRID. The I-4 is a closed group that brings together the Security leaders for some of the largest companies globally including Financial Institutions, Utilities, Manufacturers and CNI Operators. This particular SECONOMICS presentation focused on the CNI Work stream (WP2), in particular its aims and the modeling approaches being taken in collaboration with the other project partners to meet those aims.
